BEIJING, March 30 (InfoChina) – Aluminum Corp of China (Chalco, ACH.NYSE, 2600.HK) signed last week with the Queensland government of Australia an agreement to invest totally 3 billion Australian dollars in the Aurukun aluminum bauxite project, Xinhua-run Shanghai Securities News reported Friday.

Under the agreement, Chalco is projected to build an alumina plant in the eastern coast of Greenland with an annual production capacity of 2.1 million tons. Besides, it will develop a 10-million-ton aluminum bauxite mine and related facilities.

Located in north Queensland, the Aurukun aluminum mine is estimated to have a reserve of some 420 million tons of aluminum bauxite after being washed.

The bidding for the project lasted for two years with ten aluminum giants around the world joining in. (Edited by Li Xueqing, )
