BEIJING, April 3 (InfoChina) – Domestic investors including the Aluminum Corp of China (Chalco, ACH.NYSE, 2600.HK) are in talks with the Guizhou provincial government on exploring aluminum bauxite resources in this southwestern province of China, www.bmlink.com, a professional building materials website, reported.

In order to make use of the local rich bauxite resources, the provincial government plans to introduce a domestic investor to build an alumina refinery and an aluminum smelter, with a designed annual production capacity of 800,000 tons and 200,000 tons respectively.

Construction of the alumina refinery is expected to cost 4 billion yuan (518 million US dollars) and is scheduled for completion in 2010. The aluminum smelter project is expected to cost some 1.8 billion yuan and go into operation in 2011.

The undeveloped mining area of Guizhou is proved to reserve over 100 million tons of bauxite. (Edited by Li Xueqing, )
