BEIJING, April 3 (InfoChina) -- China Eastern Airlines (NYSE: CEA, HK: 0670, SH: 600115) will let in strategic investors first and then join an international aviation alliance, so as not to bring disturbance to potential investors, Xinhua-run Shanghai Securities News quoted an insider of China Eastern as saying on April 3.
As the only one among China’s three major airlines that has not joined an international alliance, China Eastern has caught interest of such industry organizations as Oneworld Alliance and SkyTeam Alliance.
However, Singapore Airlines, which is deemed to have the most possibility to become the strategic investor of China Eastern, constitutes an uncertain factor for the Chinese airlines’ choice of alliance, as Singapore Airlines belong to Star Alliance.
A source with American Airlines, the principal initiator of Oneworld Alliance, didn’t make comment on China Eastern’s introduction of strategic investors, but said that it would deepen its long-term cooperation with the Chinese company so as to expand its network in China.(Edited by Chen Dongyi,
