BEIJING, Jan 3 (InfoChina)- Although the past five years became a period to see the fastest pace of growth in five decades since its birth for China's automotive industry, rapid growth is still expected for the industry in the coming five years from 2006 to 2010.
Besides, the coming five years are likely to see breakthroughs in industrial structuring, R&D, environmental protection, standard making and export.
All these may constitute the main trends for development of China's automotive industry in the 11th Five-Year Program (2006-2010), as predicted by the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC).
The NDRC predicts that by 2010 the domestic market demand for motor vehicles will reach 8-9 million units; the domestic output will hit 10 million units including one million units for export; the number of registered motor vehicles will reach 55 million units, or 40 units for every 1,000 people; the added value of motor vehicle industry will account for 2.5% of the GDP.
An NDRC official said that in the 2006-2010 period, China's motor vehicle industry will focus on optimizing and upgrading its industrial structure, after which there will be a higher degree of concentration in production, and large enterprise groups will have dominating market shares and develop harmoniously with enterprises of small and medium sizes. Besides, the forces of domestic, foreign and Sino-foreign joint venture automakers will tend to be balanced.
Another trend will be the establishment and growth of an industry making energy-efficient and environment-friendly motor vehicle products. As put by an official of the Ministry of Science and Technology, the automotive industry will focus its research and development in the coming five years on hybrid power vehicles, fuel battery vehicles and electric vehicles.
But different from the past practice of mainly importing foreign technologies and letting in foreign car brands, China will strive to master core technology and produce products of independent intellectual property rights and own brands in the future, the official said.
Besides, the government is likely to produce favorable policies and measures to encourage domestic motor vehicle manufacturers to branch out and expand export. This is also to become a new trend.
