BEIJING, April 26 (InfoChina) - Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation ("SMIC", NYSE: SMI, HK: 0981) announced that its net loss decreased to 4.41 million US dollars in the fiscal year of 2006 from 114.8 million dollars in 2005, as the company achieved sales increase and decline of operating expenditure last year.

As a matter of fact, SMIC saw the decrease of net loss as expected. In the fourth quarter of 2006, the company realized a net profit of 1.22 million dollars compared with a net loss of 15 million dollars in the same period of 2005. And its sales revenue increased 25 percent from 1.17 billion dollars to 1.47 billion dollars in 2006, while the operating expenditure dropped 8 percent from 153 million dollars in 2005 to 141 million dollars in 2006.

The company predicts that its capital expenditure is about 720 million dollars in 2007, which will be used mainly to expand the production capacity of foundries in Beijing, Shanghai and Tianjin. The figure is lower than that of 889.9 million dollars in 2006. (Edited by Yang Liu, )
