BEIJING, June 12 (InfoChina) – Words spread again these days that the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission has adopted a scheme for reshuffling the domestic telecom industry which is a bit different from the former market hearsay.
As the latest market hearsay goes, China Unicom Ltd. (NYSE: CHU) will be split up, with its CDMA network to be divided into the southern part and the northern part taken over by China Telecom Ltd. (NYSE: CHA) and China Netcom Ltd. (NYSE: CN) respectively.
This is different from the former most popular rumor which said China Unicom would sell its CDMA network to China Telecom and integrate into China Netcom with its GSM network. Market hearsay also goes that China's 3G license issues will be released after the reshuffle.
Quite a few analysts hold that there is little possibility for the rumored scheme to come true.
So far, no response has been heard from the authorities and related telecom operators with regard to the hearsay. (Edited by Li Xiaoyu,
