BEIJING, July 30 (InfoChina) - China Netcom (NYSE: CN, HK: 0906) will provide telecom services for the 2008 Olympic Games through 800M integrated digital enhanced networks, instead of earlier expected WiMAX network, announced Zhao Jidong, senior vice president and general director of Olympic division of China Netcom.
China Netcom abandon the WiMax plan because the organizers of the Games have authorized China Mobile (NYSE: CHL, HK: 0941) to build a LAN/WiMAX network, which will have 150 base stations. Losing the chance to build the WiMax network also means that China Netcom has lost a valuable chance to extend into wireless service. (Edited by Zhu Zhu) |
