BEIJING, August 6 (InfoChina) - China Telecom plans to integrate its provincially scattered “114” platforms to set up a company called Best Tone to run the business, and Wang Wei, the general manager of Shanghai Telecom, has been appointed to take charge of the company, disclosed informed sources.
The Best Tone service, also called “voice Google”, will upgrade the company’s simple yellow-pages services to a comprehensive information platform, where consumers, individual and industrial ones, cannot only get telecom number search services but also can publicize information and get other services as ticket booking and restaurant reservation by simply dialing number “114”.
Market experts pointed out that the move reflects the company’s resolution to transform its business and confidence in the prospect of Best Tone.
Despite that the company is one of the those small number of fixed-line telecom operators that manage slow growth, China Telecom has seen negative growth of fixed-line business while its Best Tone business maintains a growth of more than 100 percent. (Edited by Zhu Zhu,
