BEIJING, August 8 (InfoChina) - UTStarcom, Inc. (Nasdaq: UTSI), a end-to-end networking solutions provider, announced on August 7 that its RollingStream end-to-end IPTV solution currently supports more than 310,500 active subscribers in 19 commercial networks of China Telecom and China Netcom, which boost a total system capacity of nearly 625,000 subscribers.

The UTStarcom’s RollingStream end-to-end IPTV solution is a broad-band triple-play business platform that provides service operators with end-to-end data, voice and triple-play businesses. At present, more than 60 percent of all commercial IPTV subscribers in China are using the solution, said Brian Caskey, vice president of worldwide marketing for UTStarcom, Inc..

Besides, a recent IDC report shows that China, as the most promising IPTV market in the world, will achieved 10.5 million subscribers by 2010 and 14.9 million by 2011.

Under the circumstance, UTStarcom regards IPTV business as the company’s turning point, hoping to realize turnaround from the declining Little Smart, nickname for personal handyphone system, which brought the company a gigantic success in 2004.

But UTStarcom certainly runs risk when staking in IPTV, because the Chinese government hasn’t have a cut-and-dried IPTV industrial policy yet. (Edited by Yang Liu, )
