China Southern to formally join in Skyteam for global market share

BEIJING, Sept. 10 (InfoChina – China Southern Airlines (NYSE: CEA, HK: 1055, SH: 600029) would formally join the Skyteam Alliance in November to extend its business to the global market, as revealed by China Southern chairman Liu Shaoyong at a forum.
For this purpose, China Southern has ordered 55 airplanes from Boeing to replace aged ones.
China Southern signed in June 2006 to comply with the operational standards of Skyteam and by far would be Skyteam’s only Chinese partner.
Skyteam is the world’s third largest civil aviation alliance that controls about 22 percent of global air traffic. Its 10 members operate around 15,000 flights a day, covering 728 cities in 149 countries. In 2005, the alliance had passenger traffic of 370 million person times. (Edited by Lin Fanjing,
