Chinalco makes progresses in energy saving |

BEIJING, Sept. 10 (InfoChina) – Chinalco, parent company of Aluminum Corp of China (Chalco, ACH: NYSE, 2600: HK, 601600: SH), is striding forward in reducing comprehensive energy consumption and pollutant discharge by adopting all-around resources recycling mechanism, a high-rank executive said.
Chinalco plans to integrate the comprehensive utilization of resources into its overall development strategy and uphold new eco-friendly technologies in aluminum electrolyte, said Lu Youqing, vice-general manager of the company on an exhibition on environmental friendly technologies. The exhibition opened in northeastern China’s Harbin city on September 6, aimed to publicize eco-friendly technologies, products and equipments. Compared with 2001, the company’s energy consumption on unit output of alumina was reduced by 24.1 percent in 2006, while the removal efficiency of sulfur dioxide attained 83.45 percent from previous 40.5 percent. Since the company’s foundation in 2001, it has saved 3.06 million tons of coal equivalent and in the first half of 2007 it saved 427,000 tons of coal equivalent. Meanwhile, the emission of dust, smoke dust and COD slumped 29 percent, 36 percent and 17 percent respectively. Lu said: “Sustainable development of enterprises calls for favorable resources and environmental conditions and it’s both a responsibility and development path for industry players to be more energy efficient and eco-friendly.” (Edited by Liu Ya’nan) |
